Beginning in January, 2011, I'll be embarking on a one-year project to read nothing but classic novels that (I'm ashamed to admit) I've never read. I'll be recording my thoughts and impressions here, both on the process and the books themselves.
Between now and then, I'll be posting my prospective reading list, the history behind my decision to finally crack these spines, and why I'm doing so more or less publicly.
I'll also post about a few classics I'm going to (try to) read before January, to get a jumpstart on the project. (I'm in the middle of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey at the moment, and finding the voice truly extraordinary. It's taking me a little while though because, given its small size, it's my subway book. At home I'm racing through The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo at long last. So much to read and so little time!)
So check back in the coming weeks, and then especially starting in January.
