Classic Reads

Beginning in January, 2011, I'll be embarking on a one-year project to read nothing but classic novels.  These are books that I'm ashamed to admit I've never read.  I was an English major in college and never touched Moby-Dick.  Or Anna Karenina.  Or anything by Charles Dickens, Mark Twain, or Henry James.

It's not that I specifically avoided classic books.  And in fact many of the ones I've consumed rank among my favorite reads of all time: The Count of Monte Christo, Fahrenheit 451, Of Mice and Men.

And yet somehow I've neglected stacks of books that so many other people seem to have read long ago and (mostly) enjoyed.  Hence, my shame.

And this, my attempt to fix it.  To atone.  And to devour some seriously good books.

Here's my post on classics that I have read.

And here are a couple on the compiling of my list.

And, finally, here is the official list itself.  Fourteen books, two of which may be alternates for books I can't make it through.  But I must read at least twelve of these fourteen over the course of 2011.

I'll be recording my thoughts and impressions on the main page.  You can also search by the Category: Classic Reads.
